Liner Notes

When I was a kid, one of the shows that was on our television each week was Hee Haw. Created by Frank Peppiatt and John Ayleswoth, the first Hee Haw show aired on CBS Television on June 15, 1969, as a summer replacement series for the Smothers Brothers Comedy HourHee Haw was such a resounding success, CBS slated the series for mid- season debut, and as they say, the rest is history. From December 17, 1969 through December 27, 1997, Hee Haw shows were a weekly event in North American households. A total of 585 one-hour shows were taped in Nashville, Tennessee.

Hee Haw had such an impact on me personally, we decided to pay tribute to the “pickin and a-grinnin” from this legendary program with a live touring show, and this accompanying CD called Yee Haw. While we do not try to recreate the actual Hee Haw TV show, we lovingly remember some of the cast, the “Kornfield” humour and the amazing Country music for which it was so well- known.

My sister Kendra’s tribute to “Cousin Minnie Pearl” has become a staple on our shows, with a few silly stories and a fun sing-a-long song. Pfft You Were Gone is perhaps one of the most-recognizable recurring segments of Hee Haw and although I wrote my own lyrics for the verses, I tried to remain true to the levity of this classic.

The inspirational story Old Barns and Old People speaks directly to the heart as we age, turn silver-grey and lean a little more than we did when we were young and full of sap. And, of course, there is a healthy dose of fiddle tunes - favourites like Faded Love, the Liberty Two-Step and Maple Sugar as well as some not-so-common, but catchy tunes.

I hope you can relax and enjoy some old-time music as you listen to this album and reminisce of simpler times, silly humour and maybe tap your toes and yell Yee Haw!
