Liner Notes
This recording is truly a reflection of the past - old time fiddle music as played and enjoyed by my family for six generations. The fiddler in the reflection in the mirror on the front cover is my great-grandfather, Charlie Dyer. He was a finalist at the Canadian Open Fiddle Contest, Shelburne, Ontario in 1951. My mother, Carolyn accompanied him at the contest that year. She plays piano on this album.
Although some of the tunes recorded here are more recent vintage, they were all chosen because they were composed and are performed in the style of the pioneers of Canadian fiddling.
I am very fortunate to have some great musicians who perform live with me as well as on this recording. I thank all of them for their loyalty and support. Most of all I dedicate this album to my late father, Mervyn. He was my inspiration for playing this music. I can only strive to achieve the 'perfect sound' as he always did.
I hope you enjoy this collection of old time fiddling.
