There’s something truly magical about Christmas music. It has a way of tugging at our hearts, stirring up memories of childhood wonder—watching the skies for Santa’s sleigh, or gently shaking presents under the tree, trying to guess what’s inside.

Christmas Hoedown marks our fourth holiday album, and once again, I’ve drawn inspiration from the great pioneers of Canadian fiddling. For over a decade, families across Canada tuned in to Don Messer’s Jubilee on CBC Television—especially during the cherished Christmas specials. Mr. Messer had a unique talent for weaving together festive favourites with timeless fiddle tunes, and that same spirit is at the heart of this collection. Alongside some well-loved holiday standards, we've included a few hidden seasonal gems we hope you'll enjoy discovering.

Nadine Boles lends her voice with incredible warmth and sincerity, backed by the ever-reliable talents of Steve Piticco and Leo Stock. I’m especially honoured to have my mom, Carolyn, back on piano—her playing is part of our family’s musical heartbeat. And my sister, Kendra, pours her dedication and soul into every note she plays and sings.

Growing up, the Woods family Christmas always meant music. We’d gather with instruments in hand, jamming on fiddle tunes and holiday standards well into the night. Those memories continue to shine bright, and it’s our joy to share a piece of that magic with you.

So, pour yourself a glass of eggnog, curl up by the fire, and let the spirit of Christmas warm your heart. And if you feel the urge to dance a little jig around the kitchen—go for it! After all, there’s nothing quite like a good old Christmas Hoedown!
